As someone who desperately wanted Me and Hitman213's idea to become reality, it brings me tears of joy to be able to play a finished game/tc/mod that replicates it. As someone who admires FPS games for good gameplay and not overrated stuff some FPS games do like double jumping, platforming, excessive battle arenas with very little room to move, It brings my happiness that my game did NOT fall for that trap and instead stayed oldschool, unlike some games! It's been 25 years people since me and hitman213 got together and sketched out ideas for our game in my house back in high school. It's been a long time since it was conceived, and there were negatives that it lead to, trolling by 2 people, harassment, and worse. But now, finally the thing is done, and I don't have to worry about it not being in existance like I did for years during the design phase of the game from 1995-2002. Onslaught is now reality. And it's fun as hell to play, and challenging as hell too, even on easy it will be kicking my ass, and I am not a bad video game player. It's very hard, but that's what me and hitman213 wanted, so it 's no big deal. The difficulty spikes this thing has have put hell revealed to shame in it's difficulty, and for a while it seems quite doable, but then BAM hard levels start to infest it right near the end. It's been a very long long time since I read an onslaught design document, to see how faithful this game is to our initial idea, but all I know is I did a damn good job recreating it. Almost All the ideas are at least similar to the initial concepts. Some of the enemies are a bit different, but 75% of the guns are the same. A few enemies got seriously changed, like the lardass and the fear elemental. Gone is the old fat mutated cop lardass, and replaced with the beasiary incubus varieties. The Fear Elemental used to be a shoggoth iike thing back in the day, but now it is more like a flaming brown/red mutant. The Werewolf, Mech, Musclehead, Vampyre mutant, csc soldiers, and viper cyborgs are very similar however. It will be hard to top this version, the level design is mostly great, the enemies are placed well, the texures look outstanding, the sound and music are great, and the overall vibe is very very close to what onslaught should have been like. It's nice to see. I am writing this post to kind of discuss how happy I am with the final result. It's been 10 years of hard work to recreate me and hitman213's idea for a FPS game. Most of the time, the onslaught builds were so bad that they really tanked bad, some had bad gameplay, some had bad levels, one was total shit, some had stuff ripped from other mods and weren't released due to that, all of these versions pale in comparison ot the last 2 onslaught builds, and should be relegated to the alpha stage of the game developent, it took a lot of work to build the beta version that the final is partially based on , and it will be fun to see how this is received now that it's finally released to be downloaded here. I am happy it's finally finished, and to actually be able to play it is great, I am also happy to see how good the levels came out, every level but level 5 and level 31 is flawless! Those 2 levels have 2 big bad boss monster bugs but they are related to massive sized bosses messing up in zdoom maps not designed for 100 foot tall enemies. Those two bugs however, are NOT game breaking, but besides those 2 levels, everything else is fine, seriously. Onslaught is done, and I am glad, for once that Our idea finally made it into a good form. It might not be great, but it sure aint shit. I can tell, I hope the #gamedev groups on twitteer can tell too!
